What does your rating really mean?  How do various websites compare in terms of skill level?

Please let us know about the game site where you play, at moorg@zroundtable.com

Thanks to many of you -- we have started to compile and compare statistics and players/skill levels at various websites.  The early results do not include many data points and/or "benchmarks."  However, the data is fairly stable and correlated -- so that we can start to see familiar patterns, even with the sparse data.

"Benchmarks" are players who play at more than one site -- and allow us to quantify the difference in the level of play at each site.  For example, if JOE plays at both dailygammon.com and FIBS.com -- his rating (adjusted for the rampup) at dailygammon.com MIGHT be higher than it is at FIBS because the overall level of play at FIBS is higher.  PLEASE LET US KNOW if you play a lot at more than one website or backgammon server.

It is generally believed that the best, and most serious backgammon players play at Gamesgrid.com and FIBS.com.  So far, the numbers show this to be true.  However, a new site -- Playmaker-world.com has attracted several world-class players and mostly advanced players.  The early results show that, on average, a rating at DAILYGAMMON.com should be lowered by about 150 to obtain an equivalent GAMESGRID rating.  In our research, these are actually zRatings (adjusted for the rampup in the ELO formula) -- but for "experience" above 1000-1500, this can be neglected.

DAILYGAMMON - 150 = GAMESGRID

Other comparisons can be found in our table which rates the backgammon websites/servers.
