People are more health - conscious than ever and the internet is quickly becoming a major source of health information.  Internet sites are consulted prior to seeing a physician, and immediately after to supplement information provided by the doctor.  Health information available on the web has been of variable quality, with misinformation and exaggerated claims frequently appearing as unbiased information.  Reputable sites are now growing, however, information obtained on the web should be confirmed by your own health care providers as accurate and relevant to your case.

Reviews

discoveryhealth.com 7.6 Visually-appealing, quick site with links to health news in multiple sections.  While certain disease conditions are covered very well, it was harder to find specific info and treatment options for some test conditions.
drkoop.com 7.4 Connected to a succinct medical encyclopedia.  Good links to up-to-date news, good sections on children and family.  Searching for medical conditions often provides news summaries, but detailed information on our test conditions was harder to find, including alternative med.
cbs.healthwatch.com 6.5 Laymen's version of  "Medscape", which is a good site for doctors.  Largely a portal to a mix of content from disparate sources, some excellent, some less complete.  It was hard to find concise definitions of conditions and treatment options for our test conditions. Must register.
webMD.com 6.5 A lot of good information available, but the site search for "all of webMD" was not working when tested.  Health-e-meters are an appealing interactive feature, although a calculator for body mass index was notably missing.
